  18. <p>    The U.S. Senate voted 88 to 5 last week to bar states from
  19. allowing gambling on professional and amateur sports events.
  20. Nevada, Delaware, Oregon, North Dakota and Montana already allow
  21. sports gambling. Other cash-strapped states have been itching
  22. to get into the lucrative trade. Senator Bill Bradley, a former
  23. college and professional basketball star, said, "This will
  24. preserve the opportunity for all young people who want to
  25. participate in sports to regard the game as theirs, not the
  26. gamblers'."
